Looming over Udaipur, high up at the summit of Banas Dhara Mountain stands an awe inspiring palace also known as Monson Palace. About 100 years ago Maharana Sajjan Singh built this palace for the purpose of hunting. At the height of 3100 feet from the sea level and 7 Kms. form town is a palace with panoramic view of Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar and the City. A building that has an almost compelling attraction to Udaipur’s visitors pulling them up in the late afternoon as the heat of the day cools down, up to its step ramparts to see what lies there in spectacle of the setting sun. The palace remain as the part of the heritage of Mewar. The palace had been used by the royal family as the holiday home.

Maharana Sajjan Singh was a man of much learning and had a passion for astronomy; the original plan was that Sajjangarh would incorporate an observatory.

Though only a shell, whether shinnig in the sun or glowing by evening floodlight, the palace is a wondrous sight
