Saheliyon Ki Bari, Udaipur
Originally Sahelion Ki Bari was constructed by Maharana Sangram Singh II for the maids of honour and female companions of the royal ladies, below the embankment of Fateh Sagar Lake. Later Maharana Fateh Singh built here an ornamental pool with chattris and fountains and sitting rooms, decorated with paintings and glass mosaics. It also has a lotus pond within the compound wall of the inner garden. At each of its four corners, there is a marble elephant cut out of single piece of stone, that rains water from its trunk on the lotus flowers below. This small ornamental garden was a popular relaxing spot for the princesses and the royal ladies to come for a stroll, gossip or play with the maids. The garden possesses beautiful flowerbeds, lawns, pools, fountains and chiseled kiosks outlined with a row of shady trees. A library is now housed in the inner room.
