Lake Pichola, Udaipur
Lake Pichola is the most picturesque lake of Udaipur. Originally the lake was built by a Banjara or a grain carrier at the end of 14th century during the reign of Maharana Lakha. It was later enlarged and finished by Maharana Udai Singh who founded Udaipur. The lake is 2.5 miles long and 1.5 mile broad, which gets its water from a big stream from the western mountains. Deriving its name from village Picholi, the Lake Pichola is encircled by massive white palaces, dark and bare hills, rows of bathing ghats thronged by people and marble temples with their flags high in the air. In the middle of the lake are the two island palaces -Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir that display a breathtaking magnificence.
